UFO sightings and Tenerife

UFOs seen over Tenerife

With its very unworldly landscapes and mountain areas that look more like the Moon or Mars, perhaps it isn't surprising that Tenerife has had plenty of reported UFO sightings over the years?

In fact, so many unidentified lights in the sky have been reported over recent years that a Tenerife Sky Watchers group has been created by astrologer and author Ellie Sand.

El Médano’s Montaña Roja (Red Mountain), and the Playa de Tejita area beach near it, is one of the locations on the island of Tenerife where the guidebook All Tenerife claims that UFOs have been encountered. The book states: “El Médano, and particularly the Montaña Roja are also renowned sites amongst UFO watchers, as this is said to be an area where flying saucers are often seen and contact with alien life-forms made.”

Other UFO hotspots in Tenerife

Granadilla in the south of Tenerife is another part of the island that has had its share of sightings of the mysterious craft.

Mt Teide, the highest mountain in Spain, and the mountainous area on it known as Las Cañadas del Teide, are other places where UFOs have been reportedly seen. Up on Mt Teide it looks like another planet anway, so its seems very apt that if alien beings were going to come to Tenerife that they would choose this location.

Punta del Hidalgo, on the extreme northern coast of Tenerife, and right next to the seaside village of Bajamar, is another area where so many sightings have been reported that sky watching groups have been set up at times. Besides UFOs, actual alien beings that got out of a landed craft are said to have been seen in the area.

In January 1999, a married couple, who had parked their car near the beach, claimed that they witnessed a semi-spherical craft land in front of where they were.

The couple said that a number of tall long-haired alien beings came out of the craft, which had been glowing, and that the entities walked about on the seafront before getting back in their flyng saucer and leaving.

A former well-known Tenerife journalist and broadcaster, the late Paco Padrón, who passed on in 2005, was known to be very interested and involved in ufology. Padrón was the author of Luces de Medianoche (Midnight Lights), a book in which he told of his personal UFO sightings and encounters.

Tenerife is very fortunate because it gets a lot of very clear skies at night, which make it ideal for anyone interested in astronomy. It is also a wonderful location for skywatching and so it is not surprising that the island has its own group of people interested in looking out for UFOs.

Very interesting, I have only been to Tenerife once, and it felt like 'home', I don't know why, anyway I stayed on the South off the Island, golf de sur I think.

I hadn't heard or seen anything like ufo's, and the question I wanted to ask was is there a certain time of the year when more UFO sightings are reported?

It felt like home to me too so I made it mine! I can't say if there are better times of year for UFO spotting.
